Airasia.com – route to Asia!

May 24, 2011 in Travel Tips by TravelReflex Team

In 2008 Airasia.com, one of the biggest airline companies in Asia, launched a new route – London-Kuala Lumpur – London, and became the cheapest airline flying from Europe to Asia. When you get to Kuala Lumpur you will have an access to almost any destinations in Asia.

 Why it is cheap?

Ticket price from London to Kuala Lumpur starts from £ 59.00 ($ 97.00) one way. However, do not think that £ 120.00 ($200.00) is what you are going to pay for your return flight with Airasia.com. You will be asked to pay extra fees for: luggage (20kg), seats (if you travel with a friend and want to sit together), food (pre-book in advance, it will cost you £ 6-7/$10 per meal), entertainment (e-player , £5 /$8 if you book online) and of course VAT. But even adding some of the extras to your flight cost you will be paying about £ 250.00 ($400.00) which is an excellent price for the way in and out Asia.

More about Airasia.com!

You will be flying from Stansted Airport (London, UK) – Aircraft Model A320 (Oakland Raiders). Flight time is at 11pm in the evening. Airasia.com cabin crew are Malaysians, polite and helpful staff.

Do not worry about the seats, they are not in best condition, however they are comfy enough for 13 hours flight. If it is not convenient for you, you will able to book XL seats (premium class) and straight your legs.

If you pre-book your food online, you will have a choice of International, Asian/Malaysian and Vegetarian meals. Please do not think you will get a hug portion of meal, dessert and unlimited alcohol. Your meal will consist of a food container and a bottle of water. But you will be able to buy some snacks on board of aircraft (prices from RM 3/£ 0.60/$1)

As an entertainment you will be offered to read free Travel 3 Sixty Magazine ( information on the world destinations, fashion, fun, celebrities etc.) or you can rent an e-player (£5/$9 on line, and £6/$10 on board.) The battery of e-player lasts 8 hours and e-player will be available after the meal was served. Airasia.com‘s e-player has around 10 movies, however not all of them are available as advertised. I would not recommend to rent e-player on the way to Kuala Lumpur, because most of the hours of your flight you will be sleeping; however on the way back it could be enjoyable.

When you land in Kula Lumpur and you need to get to the centre of the city, the best option would be SkyBus Company by Airasia.com. Single ticket will cost you RM9/£1.5/$3 and it will take you to Sentral Station of Kuala Lumpur within 1.15 hours. You can purchase SkyBus ticket on board. If you have you flight connection in Kuala Lumpur Airport and have some hours to kill for a sleep and a shower – Tune Hotel Airport is the best option. Tune Hotel Airport is located just 5 -10 min walk from the terminal, and you will be able to see it from KL Airport’s door steps. Or if you are too tired to walk you can always take a SkyShuttle by Airasia.com; the ride will cost you RM1/£0.17/$0.29.

Tune Hotels belong to Airasia.com – nice, clean, modern, budget accommodation with 5 star bed concepts. Rooms price start from RM15/£5/$10. Get your towel with you if you do not plan to spend any extra money, there are some extra charges for the full hotel package: Airasia.com slogan could be “Pay less when you book, spend more when you get here” Rooms are not big, but you will get all what you need: bed and shower.

In conclusion I say that there is always a trick when you go for the cheapest option, however I enjoyed my experience with Airasia.com and I will definitely fly with them again. For the price I paid £250/$400 for the return ticket, I am happy to miss on luxury.
