Utah boasts some of the best snow in the world. With over 14 resorts—seven of those within an hour of Salt Lake International Airport—there’s really no reason not to get out and enjoy some powder this winter. If you’re looking for some great ski resorts in Utah this winter, these are some of the best:
- Brian Head: If family fun is what you’re looking for, Brian Head, in Southern Utah is one of the Southwest’s premier destinations. It was even named a “Top Family Getaway for Family Travelers” by the Family Travel Forum. And if Vegas is your place, Brian’s Head is Utah’s closest resort, with only a three-hour drive from sunny Sin City, USA.
- Park City Mountain Resort: For the more experienced skier, Park City Mountain Resort is a short 35-minute drive from Salt Lake Airport, making it one of the most accessible spots. They pile up the snow even higher than the average 360 inches they boast yearly. Plus Park City Mountain is still another great family destination, named among the top 10 family destinations in the U.S. every year. This year they’re added over $10 million in improvements, including a new high-speed lift gives you access to over 2,000 acres of prime skiing.
- Brighton: Looking for history and fun in the snow? Brighton is one of the country’s older resorts. But don’t worry; it’s plenty up to date. With a rise of 1,100 feet, their high-speed lift gives you access to 100% of their terrain. Plus for families, local Utahans voted Brighton #1 for kids/family friendly terrain and was voted a best value six years in a row.
- Beaver Mountain Resort: For northern Utah destinations, Beaver Mountain Resort has 48 open runs with 5 high-speed lifts. Open from December to March, Beaver gives skiers plenty of time to enjoy the slopes. Plus Beaver Mountain boasts a season-ending “Big Air” contest, featuring jumps and a pond-skimming event that are fun for both participants and spectators. Beaver Mountain is also a great summer destination as well, with fishing, boating, and horseback riding among its many activities.
- The Canyons: The more remote Canyons Resort is among the newest, and has been a great alternative for Utahans wishing to escape the crowds of Park City. Once only accessible by tough hiking, the hidden peaks are now developed and easily accessible. With over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain, the Canyons is still on its way to becoming a full resort and growing every year. The people-friendly focus includes an open-air, four-passenger gondola, called a cabriolet, to transport you and your gear uphill from the lower parking lot and back down at the end of the day—when you’re worn out from a great day of skiing.
